AUTO TO MANUAL IN ONE DAY (YES - ONE DAY!)

“Just back from the beginners course with Julie and 10 other fabulous people and I’m still like an over excited toddler! That was just the best day! I learned SO much. I now completely understand the theory of photography (which has baffled me for years!) and most importantly, I can put it all into practice and take amazing photographs! The course content was perfect – delivered beautifully & backed up by practical work in the gardens! Julie was wonderful – patient, knowledgable & so down to earth! This course has been exactly what I was looking for! Thank you!”

“I attended one of Julie Christie’s photography workshops and I have to say that it was excellent! For someone not used to all the terms, abbreviations and settings on a DSLR Julie’s teaching methods were not intimidating at all. She covered all the basics and more and explained things well (and patiently I might add) to complete novices like me. You will leave knowing so much and feeling much more confident about taking photographs, You will be motivated to improve and progress further. Many thanks once again Julie!”

FULL DAY BEGINNERS PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP IN SCOTLAND

Although I love to teach photography via my podcast, I realise that doesn’t suit everyone. Maybe you learn better when you are being taught in person?

Well guess what? I do that too!

I run one day photography courses in Scotland for people exactly like you. People who are desperate to learn as quickly as possible. People who have a good camera and want to learn how to use it in the way it was meant to be used. People who learn best in a practical and supportive environment where you can mix with other like-minded learners and immerse yourself in photography for a full day. You can ask questions and ask for clarification on the spot, something you can’t do via podcast.

Do you want to understand exposure without being bombarded by science?

Do you want to use your camera confidently in manual shooting mode?

Do you want to create that blurry background that everyone loves?

Do you want to focus like a pro to capture sharp images every single time?

Do you want to understand how to find great light for your photography?

Do you want to improve your photography using great composition?

“I am so glad this course lived up to my expectations! Julie is an engaging teacher who taught me everything I wanted to know in the first instance and has put me on a great stepping stone to success. I surprised myself at how much information I managed to retain. It was a lot! Thank you Julie!”

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does the workshop cost?

A full day’s workshop costs just £125 including lunch and refreshments. (You can save £25 right now by using our 20% discount code – ‘AUTUMN’)

How long does the workshop last?

The workshop begins at 10am and finishes at 4.30pm.

Where does the workshop take place?

The workshop is held in the beautiful Taypark House Boutique Hotel in the sunny city of Dundee.

Is food and drink provided?

It sure is! A delicious lunch and lots of refreshments are provided and included in the cost of your ticket.

Is there an age limit to attend the workshop?

This workshop is for adults aged 18 years and over.

What kind of camera do I need for the workshop?

A DSLR or a CSC is preferable but a bridge camera will also be suitable.  You will be learning how to manually expose so your camera must have manual controls at least. I’m afraid a compact point-and-shoot is not suitable for this workshop.

What if I don't have a suitable camera?

If you would like to come along to the workshop before taking the plunge and purchasing a camera then please get in touch. I may be able to bring along a spare DSLR for you to us on the day. Alternatively you could borrow from a friend or family member for the day. A good chance to try before you buy!

I am going to buy a camera/lens for the workshop. What would you recommend?

It just so happens I have an eBook which you will find very helpful. You can download it right here!

What are my transport/parking options?

When you book via Eventbrite (below) you will receive directions to Taypark House in Dundee. The city is easily reached via car, bus and train and Taypark House is very easy to find. There is car parking at the hotel.

What should I bring with me on the day?

Please bring your camera, lens(es), user manual, notebook and pen. Please also make sure you have adequate clothing for the weather.  We will be spending an hour outdoors in the afternoon if it is dry. Course notes, refreshments and lunch will all be provided on the day.

I don't have my user manual. Do I really need it?

Sometimes someone brings a camera I am not at all familiar with and we have trouble finding certain settings without the user manual. However, don’t worry if you don’t have one. Most manual are now online so you should be able to access it. We can always look it up together on the day.

Who should I contact with any questions?

You can fill in our contact form right here with any questions. We will get back to you within 24 hours.

Can I buy a ticket as a gift for someone else?

You certainly can! A ticket makes a fantastic gift. Simply purchase the ticket, print it out and present it to them in a card. (You can enter the recipient’s name but use your own email address so that the information goes to you and doesn’t spoil the surprise!)

Do you do gift vouchers? I don't want to choose a date in case it doesn't suit.

We sure do! You can purchase a gift voucher which is valid for six months. Discount codes cannot be used for vouchers. Simply click here to purchase. Please note that the workshops are very popular, especially after Christmas, so there may not always be spaces on the desired date. Choosing a date is preferable.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the workshop?

Try to bring it if you can, however, I will have a note of everyone’s name so please don’t worry if you misplace it or forget it.

What is your refund policy?

All tickets are non-refundable so please ensure you (or the recipient of the gift) will be able to attend before purchasing.

What if I can't make it on the day?

If we have 7 or more days notice we will transfer you to a different date. We understand that things can happen which are beyond your control. Please do contact us if you can’t make it on the day and we will do everything we can to help.

I am an absolute beginner - is this workshop suitable for me?

Absolutely! I assume no knowledge at all and I begin with the very basics. All you need is a willingness to learn.

I know a little already - is this workshop suitable for me?

It might still be of huge benefit. If you have a knowledge of the basics of exposure but you are not able to put this into practice when shooting in manual mode then this workshop will fill in all of the blanks. However, if you are already comfortably shooting in manual mode then this workshop is not the right one for you.

I'm a bit shy in groups. Will I have to work together with others?

There will be group and paired activities at several points during the day. However, these tasks are very structured so there is no need to worry about what to say to each other. I find that as the day progresses everyone really starts to get to know each other and there is a very supportive atmosphere.

How do I book a place?

The easiest way to book is using the online booking form below. You can book and pay online in minutes via my Eventbrite page. You will receive all the details via email and you will be able to download and print your ticket and venue directions there and then.
